Join the SoBe Life Walk Day

Spring is here and it is time to reconfirm your resolve to live a healthy lifestyle. The Million Pound Challenge and the Pepsi Bottling Group are inviting you and your family to participate in a three-mile walk Saturday, April 12 at the Detroit River Walk, beginning at 8 a.m.

“We are proud to partner with the Michigan Chronicle and the Million Pound Challenge for "SoBe Life Water Walking Month", said Jennifer Smith, multicultural marketing manager, Pepsi Bottling Group. “What better way to kick off the spring season than with a renewed commitment to health and wellness with a walk along the beautiful Detroit Riverfront, staying hydrated with SoBe Life Water.”

This walk will be energizing and motivating. Along the way, there will be local SoBe Life Walk Ambassadors who will motivate the crowd with words of encouragement. Live music and SoBe Life Water will be available. Councilwoman Alberta Tinsley-Talabi has joined the Challenge and she will be “Walking it Out” with a few of her friends.

"We must all be proactive in promoting a healthy lifestyle, said Detroit City Council Member Alberta Tinsley-Talabi. "Most recently, I inherited three dogs from my daughter and this in turn has encouraged me to jump-start my morning walking routine. I'm now breathing better and more energized to deliver a full work day."

Mark your calendars; the next health seminar themed “The Truth about Gastric Bypass and Other Weight Loss Surgeries” will be held at Wayne County Community College District Downtown Campus at 6 p.m. on April 16.

“Walk It Out

Detroit, come ‘Walk It Out’ with the Million Pound Challenge Official SoBe Life Walk on April 15, 2008.

The Million Pound Challenge will host a three-mile walk in three locations across the Detroit metro area to promote healthy living and a healthy lifestyles sponsored by the Michigan Chronicle and Pepsi Bottling Group.

“This walk will promote awareness for continued fitness and exercise as the Spring Season starts,” said Sam Logan, publisher of the Michigan Chronicle. “The Million Pound Challenge continues to be a successful fitness guide to the community and this walk is another facet to help demonstrate the need to stay on pace.”

The Walk(s) will take place at the Inglenook Park in Southfield, Mich., Detroit River Walk and Palmer Park in Detroit. The walk will be coordinated to begin at 8 a.m. This will be an opportunity for Challengers and supporters to reconfirm their resolve to life a healthy lifestyle. The entire family is invited to come out and join the hundreds of Challengers to ‘Walk It Out’.

“The Michigan Blues encourages everyone to join the Challenge for the sake of good health. While losing extra weight is important, the greater purpose of the program is to help stop unhealthy habits that lead to long-term health problems, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and high blood pressure,” said Diana Jones, vice president, community affairs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Participants are encouraged to maintain a sense of urgency and activism with these programs. This will ensure positive results and act as a support group for those you are working toward living a healthier lifestyle.
